To Parents/Guardians of our seventh grade students:
My name is Ms. Serio, the 8th grade School Counselor, and one of my most important roles here at I.S. 14 is to help our rising 8th graders and families prepare and plan for the High School Application Process.
Beginning this week, I will be visiting 7th grade classes to provide a lesson and overview of the High School Admissions Process, discussing important topics such as, “How to Apply to High School Next Year” and “Things to Consider Before Applying to High School.” I will have a detailed discussion with our students about making informed decisions when applying to High School.
This year the High School Admissions Process has changed. Now families are responsible for applying to High Schools from home, by creating their personal MySchools.nyc account. I will be in the classrooms distributing the step by step instructions on how to create your child’s MySchools.nyc account online (please help them with this.) They will need, (and will receive,) their very own Account Creation Code, along with their student ID and an email address (preferably a Gmail account.)
The following High School materials and documents will be distributed in the classroom during my visits to the 7th grade classes:
1. The 2020 NYC High School Admissions Guide (one per student)
2. The Specialized High School Student Handbook (for interested students only)
3. Grade 8 Month by Month Planning Calendar (2019-2020 school year)
4. Invitation to a “High School Admissions Family Workshop”
5. Creating a MySchools.nyc account-Step by Step instructions
6. Planning Ahead Guide: Things to think about before filling out a HS Application in your 8th grade year.
7. High School Admissions: My Checklist.

You may begin doing your research, exploring the world of High School and save High School Programs, in your MySchools.nyc account that your child is interested in applying to! I look forward to working with you next year!

STEPS TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT
STEP 1: GO TO MYSCHOOLS.NYC.GOV
STEP 2: GO TO “NEED TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT? SIGN UP HERE (BOTTOM OF PAGE)
STEP 3: THEN CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT-YOU ARE GOING TO NEED AN EMAIL ADDRESS THAT YOU FREQUENTLY/DAILY USE.
STEP 4: ENTER YOUR PROVIDED ACCOUNT CREATION CODE (THIS IS PROVIDED BY MS. SERIO OR WILL BE MAILED TO YOUR HOME.)
STEP 5: ENTER YOUR CHILD’S STUDENT ID (ALSO KNOWN AS HIS/HER OSIS#)
STEP 6: FOLLOW PROMPTS ONCE YOU’VE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM MYSCHOOLS.
STEP 7: ONCE LOGGED IN, CHECK THAT YOUR CHILD’S PROFILE IS ACCURATE. ANY DISCREPANCIES, CONTACT MS. SERIO.
